Multi-City Flights

A multi-city flight is one booking with two or more flights between different cities, such as New York to London, then Paris to New York. It lets you fly into one city and home from another without backtracking, and is often priced lower than buying separate one-way tickets for each leg.

What counts as a multi-city trip

Any itinerary that is not a simple out-and-back is a multi-city trip.

Why one booking beats separate tickets

When all flights are on one booking, the airline is responsible for the whole trip.

  • Protected connections — if a delay makes you miss a connecting flight on the same ticket, the airline rebooks you.
  • Through-checked bags on connections within the same ticket, where the airlines allow it.
  • Often lower total price than the same flights booked as separate one-way tickets.

Separate tickets can still make sense when one leg is on a low-cost airline. Leave long buffers between them, because a delay on the first ticket does not protect the second.

How to book a multi-city flight

  1. Select Multi-city and add each flight: departure airport, arrival airport and date.
  2. Keep legs in date order and allow time between flights for the trip you want.
  3. Compare offers by total travel time and the fare rules for each leg.
  4. Enter traveler details as on the passport and pay the total shown.
